We're thrilled to welcome you all to the Women in Cardiac Imaging community – open to all women across modalities to grow our community and show support through online conversation, resources and networking.
In her recent interview with FiRST Committee Chair
@Nidhi Madan ,
@Martha Gulati shared the essential needs for men and women in this field to open the door for women and for our voices to be amplified.
"We all have a story of what helped us decide to do cardiology." She said that Dr. Leonard Sternberg at University of Toronto was the person who initially saw her potential and opened the door for her. You can find the full interview in the
WICI resource library.
Let's introduce ourselves by sharing our experiences:
Who or what inspired you to join this field?I'll start: My name is Michelle Williams and I'm part of the
community leadership team. I am a Senior Clinical Lecture at the University of Edinburgh, Consultant Radiologist at NHS Lothian and Associate Director of the British Heart Foundation Data Science Centre. I am a member of the Board of Directors of the SCCT, chair of the SCCT Education Committee from summer 2022, and president elect of the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging.
My route to cardiovascular imaging was a circuitous one, via medical training and a cardiology research fellowship. I knew I wanted to be involved in cardiovascular imaging when I was shown our brand new CT scanner and told by my mentor to work out how to use it. My research now involves multi-modality imaging of the heart, lungs and blood vessels, including using machine learning and other advanced analytic techniques.
I look forward to meeting you and seeing you in the WICI community.
